Roots of the Faith – Regeneration

My notes for Wednesday night, June 26th. Remember, these are my personal study notes and not a manuscript of the sermon. They are provided as an outline each week for our Tabernacle Church family. Our study over the next few months will be “The Roots of the Faith.” This study will focus on key biblical truths that will transform our thinking and allow us to faithfully live out the Christian life. You can find Sermon Notes, Family Devotional Guides, Prayer List, and other resources at our Church Website.

Resources for this Study

Regeneration is the mighty work of God by which unbelievers are given a new nature, being born again.[1]

The work of the Holy Spirit in creating a new life in the sinful person, by which act he repents and comes to believe in Christ.[2]

The concept is of God renovating the heart, the core of a person’s being, by implanting a new principle of desire, purpose, and action, a dispositional dynamic that finds expression in positive response to the gospel and its Christ.[3]

The Need of Regeneration

  • John 3:1-8
  • Ephesians 2:1-10
  • Justification deals with the guilt of sin
  • Regeneration resolves the problem of our sinful nature

It is Completely a Divine Work of God

  • John 1:13
  • Titus 3:3-7
  • James 1:17-18
  • 1 Peter 1:3-5
  • Acts 16:14

It is an Instantaneous Event

  • Regeneration happens in an instance
  • Sanctification is a process. Transforming us into the likeness of Christ.

It Consists of Two Aspects

  • Removes our sinful nature
  • Gives us a new redeemed nature

It Brings Forth Spiritual Results

  • 1 John 2:29
  • 1 John 3:9
  • Galatians 5:22-23
