Romans 12:1-2

INTRO

  • God’s righteousness in everyday life (LIVING OUT CHRIST’S RIGHTEOUSNESS)
  • Application of the theological truths from Chapters 1-11
  • Daily Christian and life within the body of Christ
  • The Go and Do of being a Christ follower
  • Our life before God
  • NEW YEAR. NEW YOU

THE APPEAL GIVEN

I appeal to you (urge, beseech)

  • Encourage, exhort. Motivated by care, compassion for the believers.

Brother

  • A believer, saved, born again
  • If we are… then we can do.  THIS IS OUR HOPE

By the mercies of God

  • God’s gracious blessings poured out upon us as believers
  • Love and Grace and Peace.  Rom. 1:7, Romans 5 (our access and stance)

THE LIFE LIVED OUT

Present your bodies as a living sacrifice

  • THE WHAT – (THE COMMITMENT)
  • Priest laying sacrifice on the altar.
  • Do not let sin reign/rule in your body. Romans 6:12–14
  • Jesus Christ has paid the price as a perfect sacrifice.  THE WHAT NEXT IS OUR LIFE FOR HIM!

Holy and acceptable to God

  • Set apart for a special purpose.
  • HIS EXPECTATIONS FOR HIS PEOPLE… THROUGHOUT SCRIPTURE.  HOLY BECAUSE HE IS HOLY.

Spiritual act of worship

  • The logical outcome.  Our service to the Lord.
  • Based on the truths of Chap. 1-11. I do because of what I believe and trust in about God and the Gospel.
  •  Our knowing leads to the doing.
  • The only spiritual service of worship that honors and pleases God is the sincere, loving, thoughtful, and heartfelt devotion and praise of His children.[1]

Do not be conformed to this world – v. 2

  • THE HOW – LIVING THE COMMITMENT OUT
  • Molded by the world (outward appearance)
  • Beliefs, values, morals of the world despite the moral and absolute truth and love from God’s Word.
  • REFUSAL RENOUNCE

Transformed by the renewing of your mind

  • Metamorphosis (inward to outward)
  • RENEWAL
  • Holy Spirit through the Word
  • Psalm 119:11 – I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.
  • Colossians 1:28 – Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.
  • Philippians 4:8 – Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

THE FRUITS OF OBEDIENCE

That by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

  • Our Mind. Our Life. HIS WILL
  • Dedication. Discernment. Delight in God’s will.
  • Acceptable and Perfect.
