Romans 5:1-11 – The Gift of Christ’s Righteousness

My sermon notes for Sunday morning, Dec 22nd.  Remember, these are my personal study notes and not a manuscript of the sermon. They are provided as an outline each week for our Tabernacle Church family. We provide the preaching each week through YouTube by Sunday afternoon. You can find Sermon Notes, Family Devotional Guides, Prayer List, and other resources at our Church Website.

Romans 5:1-11

INTRO

  • We have been justified by grace through faith
  • Through justification:
    • Our sins have been forgiven.
    • We have been imputed with the righteousness of Christ.
  • Both are a gift from God and because of the righteousness of Christ.
  • This Christmas let’s consider the gift of Christ’s righteousness.

We Have Peace with God – v. 1

We are no longer at war with God…no longer His enemies

  • Isaiah 48:22 – no peace for the wicked
  • Romans 8:1 – no condemnation for the righteous

We Have Hope in His Grace – vv. 2-8

Access by faith into His grace in which we stand.

  • The right granted by a high official
  • Jesus – Luke 23:45 (when he tore the veil)

We hope in the glory of God

  • Hope – desire for good with the expectation of obtaining it. A faithful trust in God’s promises for the future
  • Glory – the excellence and perfection of who God is.
    • His Character
    • His Attributes
  • This hope is due to our access and stance. OUR PRESENCE AND WHERE WE STAND.

We hope in our suffering

  • Pressures from the outside…to squeeze.
  • How do we respond. Fear, Faint, or Fight (Faith and Focus)
  • As believers we have hope.
  • Therefore, we rejoice, because we know it has a purpose
    • It produces: Endurance (we keep going);Character (this is the proof); Hope (faithful trust in His promises)

We hope in the God’s love and His gift of the Holy Spirit

  • The reason is because the love of God has been poured in us.
  • Saved us and empowers us
  • He SHOWS HIS LOVE…WHILE STILL SINNERS…CHRIST DIED FOR US

We Have Assurance in So Great a Salvation – verses 9-11

  • IT IS A FINAL SALVATION. Much more saved by the wrath of God. Our Final
  • IT IS A COMPLETE SALVATION. We have been reconciled. Made right. Justified
