Topical Studies (Articles and Handouts)

The following material goes deeper into the subject matter of issues that pertain to the church and christian living.  They are a collection of my personal study notes and articles that I have come across that have been extremely helpful.  They range from theological papers to very practical outlines. Election and Theological Unity

The doctrine of election is a deep and wonderful truth, but it can also be a point of real disagreement. Don’t let theological camps decide what you believe, or intimidate you into avoiding the subject altogether. Go to the Word. Study the Scriptures, and let God instruct you, comfort you, and strengthen you as you wrestle humbly with the greatness of your salvation.

Years ago I settled something in my heart: I will never know all the secret things of God. I know that I came to Christ, and I also know I did not save myself. Both are true, and both lead me to worship.

We also need to avoid two common extremes. We cannot build a view of “free will” that denies God’s sovereignty. And we cannot define God’s sovereignty in a way that turns people into robots and ignores the Bible’s clear calls to repent, believe, obey, and endure. So we trust what God has revealed, and we rest in what He has not. As Deuteronomy 29:29 reminds us, “The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever”. He is God… so let Him be God.

Divine Sovereignty and Human Responsibility how both biblical truths coexist in God’s grace.

Theological Triage

  • Dr. Albert Mohler shares a good word on how to determine which doctrines and theological issues are worth fighting for and defending within our society and church context.  (Too often within the church we major on the minor)
