Luke 11:29-32 – “Jesus is Enough”

My sermon notes for Sunday morning, January 14th. Remember, these are my personal study notes and not a manuscript of the sermon. The notes are provided as an outline each week for our Tabernacle Church family. The church provides a live stream of the service each Sunday at 10:30 on Facebook. We also provide the services through YouTube by Sunday afternoon.  You can find Sermon Notes, Family Devotional Guides, Prayer List, and other resources at our Church Website.

Luke 11:29–32

INTRO

  • When the crowds were increasing… popularity is growing, but for the wrong reasons.
  • Earlier v. 16… they needed more. Show us a sign.
  • Faith was not enough, they needed more.
  • Also continuing the idea of true blessedness… hearing and obeying.
  • Faith, Hearing, and Believing is enough.
  • WHY DO WE NEED MORE? (show us a sign)

THE ARROGANCE OF UNBELIEF

Evil generation

  • These were the religious of society. Well thought of in society.
  • YET, they were sinners Ephesians 2:1
  • Today… all without the hope of the Gospel
  • The unconverted. Dead in our sins

Seeks a sign

  • Not a particular sign… just show me more.
  • Prove it to me.
    • Arrogance rather than humility
  • The truly supernatural is standing before them, but they want more.

None will be given

  • You have been shown enough
  • Nothing MORE will be revealed.
  • Jesus is enough!

THE SIGN OF UNBELIEF

Luke 16:31

  • He had already performed many miracles to this point.
  • There was not enough proof for their hardened hearts

Jonah

  • His ministry as prophet
  • His preaching of judgement
  • His call for repentance

Son of Man to this generation

  • Death, Burial, and Resurrections

THE REALITY OF JUDGEMENT

Queen of the South

  • 1 Kings 10:1-10
  • She came seeking wisdom from Solomon (seeking truth)
  • Jesus is much wiser than Solomon

Men of Nineveh

  • They responded to Jonah’s message of repentance
  • Jesus is greater than Jonah

What Now?

  • We have heard, yet we fail to believe.
  • We hear, yet we fail to obey.
  • It is a great picture of arrogance verse humility.
  • The hardened says “convince me.”  A receptive heart cries out “save me”
  • JESUS IS ENOUGH!
