Evangelism
A Definition
Presenting Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit to sinful people, in order that they may come to put their trust in God through Him, to receive Him as their Savior, and to serve Him as their King in the fellowship of His church.[1]
The joyful and intentional proclamation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. (Pastor Jon)
- God’s Holiness
- Mans Sinfulness
- Christ’s redemption
- Mans response
The Goal
Fulfilling the Great Commission. Making Disciples. (Conversion)
- Saved
- Growing
- Worship
- Serving
Our Responsibility
- Some are called to be an evangelist. Ephesians 4:11-12
- All are called to fulfill the Great Commission. 1 Peter 2:9
- Proclamation – We must proclaim the Gospel. The biblical message of Jesus Christ and the need for salvation.
- Persuasion – We must persuade people to respond to the message. God’s sovereignty in salvation process should never prevent us from encouraging people to come to Christ in repentance and faith.
- Not all are gifted the same way, but all gifted to point people to Christ.
- We can all be guilty of wanting others to have to same passion to do what we are doing.
Matthew 28:19–20 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Mark 16:15 He said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Luke 24:46–47 He said to them, ‘… that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
John 20:21 Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.
Acts 1:8 You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
