Luke 22:47-53: The Betrayal of the Savior

My sermon notes for Sunday morning, March 9th.  Remember, these are my personal study notes and not a manuscript of the sermon. They are provided as an outline each week for our Tabernacle Church family. We provide the preaching each week through YouTube by Sunday afternoon. You can find Sermon Notes, Family Devotional Guides, Prayer List, and other resources at our Church Website.

Do not let our proximity to Jesus confuse us with relationship our with Jesus.

The Disciples Reaction – vv. 49-51

They were not spiritually ready

  • Did not listen (follow the words of Christ)

Thought the battle was physical rather than spiritual

  • Ephesians 6:10-20 (Not flesh and blood)
  • Responded in a physical way

As his followers, if we are not prayed up and standing firm, we will react to the temptations of the world with physical means rather than spiritual.

The Crowds Darkness – vv. 52-53

Jesus references the political and religious powers

  • The authority of darkness
  • Sanhedrin, Pilate, Herod

Opposed to the who and what of the true Gospel (JESUS)

  • Working in the cover of darkness
  • Conspiring together

Darkness

  • Sin and Evil

The world is full of darkness, and we are called to be children of light. Therefore, we should not have any desire to wander in the dark.
